St. Joseph’s Women Advance in A-10 Tournament With Dominant Win

St. Joseph’s women defeat Duquesne 66-45 in the A-10 tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals behind strong defense.

Saint Joe’s women’s basketball team is moving on in the Atlantic 10 tournament, writes Colin Schofield for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Bala Cynwyd team delivered a commanding 66-45 victory over Duquesne women’s basketball on Thursday, using a combination of hot shooting and stifling defense to secure a spot in the A-10 quarterfinals.

St. Joe’s jumped out early, building a 14-point lead in the first quarter behind three-point shooting from guards Gabby Casey and Jill Jekot. Although Duquesne cut the deficit to six by halftime, the Hawks locked down defensively. In the third quarter, the women held the Dukes scoreless for nearly five minutes and stretched the lead back to double digits.

Casey suffered an ankle injury that sidelined her in the regular season finale. She led the Hawks with 16 points in her return.

Jekot added nine points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, while Faith Stinson and Aleah Snead each contributed 10 points. St. Joe’s connected on 10 three-pointers and forced 20 turnovers, limiting Duquesne to just 30.8% shooting from the field.

The win advances the Hawks to a quarterfinal matchup against the Davidson Wildcats women’s basketball on Friday afternoon.
