Ten Saint Joseph’s University students are heading into the 2024–25 academic year with high honors after earning competitive scholarships and fellowships, writes Madeline Marriott for Saint Joseph’s University.
Among them is Jake Richfield, a political science major and first-generation college student, who earned a spot in the Fulbright Summer Institute. He’ll spend three weeks in Belfast, Northern Ireland, exploring political reconciliation in a society still healing from decades of violent conflict.
Meanwhile, Abby Robinson, a biology major researching bacterial pathogens, received the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship—one of the highest honors for undergraduates in STEM fields. Her work could one day help develop new treatments for infectious diseases.
Other awardees are heading to Spain, Northwestern University, and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Los Angeles.
“(These students) represent what it means to be a Saint Joseph’s student: intellectually driven, globally minded and committed to making a difference,” said Dr. Enrique Téllez-Espiga, director of fellowships.
