Perkiomen School graduate Brant Byers emerged as a key contributor for Miami of Ohio, helping lead the RedHawks to their most successful season ever, writes Isabella DiAmore for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Byers was always the tallest kid in his class growing up, a trait that helped him become the top player on his team until he transferred to Perkiomen School for his senior year in 2023.

“Perkiomen was a wide awakening for me,” he said. “Playing with guys that are a lot bigger, stronger, and better than me.”

The experience was challenging, but it helped prepare him for the next stage of his playing career. After forgoing a postgraduate year at Perkiomen, Byers went to Oxford, Ohio, where he redshirted his first season and saw limited action off the bench last year. This season, however, he has stepped into a starting role, helping lead the team to a historic 31-0 record.

While the team lost in the Mid-American Conference quarterfinals to eighth-seeded UMass, the RedHawks are likely to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

“That’s definitely a goal that we’ve set for ourselves,” said Byers.
