Twenty museums and historic sites are opening free on Friday, Sept. 26, through Sunday, Sept. 28, including the Valley’s Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center.

At the Heritage Center, you can see current changing exhibits that feature local contemporary sculpture, quilts, and the history of cigar-making.

Special events for the weekend include tours of the 1826 Seipt Family Barn, which will be available Friday and Saturday afternoons. On Saturday at 10:30 AM, families can build a pipe organ with OrgelKids PA.

On Sunday, at 2:00 PM, popular local speaker Tom Henry will discuss the houses and farms razed to build the Green Lane Reservoir. Both of these programs require pre-registration to ensure seating, as they are filling fast. However, events all weekend are free thanks to KeyBank and the Friends Local History Fund. To register, go to the website and click on the date or call 215-679-3103.

These activities are part of the Lehigh Valley’s Passport to History Weekend; find all the events here. The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center at 105 Seminary Street, Pennsburg, is the regional history museum for the Upper Perkiomen Valley. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM and Sunday from 1-4:00 PM for visits to exhibits or research in the library.
