Pearl Atwood, a Telford resident, celebrated her 100th birthday at Twin Woods Golf Course in Hatfield, where she has played nine holes every Wednesday for years with the women’s league, writes Eva Andersen for CBS News Philadelphia.
“I was 50 years old, and I said, too old to learn,” said Atwood.
But she proved herself wrong and has been golfing ever since.
Now, she is happy to offer some advice to anyone starting a new sport.
“It’s advisable to take a few lessons,” she said. “Not from your husband – but from a pro.”
She noted that her long life is the result of living by simple advice.
“Keep busy and keep your faith,” said Atwood.
Twin Woods Golf Course owner, 91-year-old Betty Johnston, only had words of praise for Atwood.
“She’s the most wonderful, inspiring, motivating, admirable woman I know,” she said. “She’s my idol.”
Johnston added that Atwood’s resilience is even more extraordinary, knowing she had lost her husband, George, and her three children, her sons to cancer and her daughter to a car accident. Atwood said she is looking forward to the day she can see them all again.
