Souderton Area High School graduate Will McCausland received life-changing news on July 14 when he was drafted to the Cleveland Guardians, writes Ethan Kopelman for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The right-handed pitcher now looks to follow in the footsteps of fellow Souderton alum, Jamie Moyer, who pitched until he was 49.
McCausland’s was marked by perseverance. He started as part of a state championship team, although on the lower squad. His sophomore season was canceled due to COVID-19, and his junior year was interrupted by illness. But he dominated as a senior, posting a 0.69 ERA and striking out more than 60% of the batters he faced.
He continued his development at St. Joe’s University before transferring to Ole Miss, where he led the team in appearances and embraced a bullpen role. His time in Oxford was highlighted by packed crowds and the guidance of pitching coach Joel Mangrum, formerly with the Guardians.
Now in a professional role, McCausland is prepared to contribute in any capacity.
