Two standout players from Montgomery County took a major step toward the big leagues with their selection in this year’s MLB Draft, writes Isabella DiAmore for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Harleysville native and Souderton Area High School graduate Will McCausland was selected in the seventh round at No. 222 by the Cleveland Guardians.
The right-handed pitcher has spent this last season at Ole Miss after starting his college career at St. Joseph’s, where he pitched for two years. This year, McCausland posted a 4.32 ERA over 24 appearances, with 55 strikeouts in 41⅔ innings.
Lansdale native Dylan Brown was taken on Day 2 of the draft by the Boston Red Sox with the 238th overall pick.
The 21-year-old left-hander who has spent the last three seasons at Old Dominion. His fastball ranges from 90 to 94 miles per hour, and he complements it with a change-up in the low 80s.
This year, he has turned in his best college performance so far, finishing with a 4.06 ERA. Over 82 innings, he struck out 102 batters while giving up 76 hits, 37 earned runs, and 26 walks.
