Josh Shapiro is making waves in the race for the White House, three years before anyone officially declares, writes George Stockburger for ABC27.
A new national poll from Emerson College shows the Pennsylvania governor and Abington native tied for fourth place among likely Democratic contenders for the 2028 election.
Shapiro earned 7% of support among Democratic primary voters, putting him neck and neck with New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Both trail Pete Buttigieg at 16%, Kamala Harris at 13%, and Gavin Newsom at 12% in early polling.
The one-term governor is known for flipping a battleground and was also reportedly a finalist to be Harris’ running mate in 2024. Shapiro’s profile has only grown since then.
The survey sampled 1,000 registered voters and reflects just how wide open the Democratic field remains.
On the republican side, Vice President JD Vance leads with 46%. Marco Rubio and Ron DeSantis trail behind.
It’s still early, but Josh Shapiro’s strong showing underscores how Pennsylvania’s governor is becoming a key figure in the national political conversation.
