A Fateful Meeting Sends La Salle College High School Athlete to Notre Dame

Pennsburg’s Grayson McKeogh pivoted from hoops to football—and now the La Salle senior is heading to Notre Dame as a rising star tackle.

A year and a half ago, La Salle College High School’s Grayson McKeogh thought his future was in the NBA, writes Joseph Santoliquito for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Now, he’s headed to Notre Dame to play left tackle for one of the most storied programs in college football.

The 6ft 8in senior from Pennsburg had a pivotal meeting in February 2024 with head coach Brett Gordon and offensive line guru Mark Schmidt that changed everything. They convinced McKeogh to switch from defensive end to a position he had never played before: left tackle.

Sixteen months later, McKeogh is one of the top offensive line prospects in the country, turning down visits from Alabama, Texas, and Ohio State. He in now committed to play for the Fighting Irish.

Coaches praise his size, intelligence, and athleticism, qualities that translated quickly thanks to his basketball background. McKeogh was skeptical at first, but embraced the challenge, crediting teammates and coaches for helping him learn fast.

Now a 285-pound anchor of La Salle’s offensive line, McKeogh enters his senior season. His goal for the season is a State Championship.
