Zaire Franklin, a linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, returned to his former stomping ground at La Salle College High School to host a girls flag football event on Saturday, writes Tyler Delpercio for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Franklin’s girls’ flag football jamboree drew over 50 girls from sixth through twelfth grade to the Wyndmoor school, all eager to showcase their skills.
“We’re here to grow the game,” said Franklin, an NFL Global Flag Football Ambassador. “We’re here to teach the young ladies the beauty of the game that I grew up in love and taught me so much. I could do nothing more than continue to grow the game and give the game to the young women in Philadelphia and I’m glad we got some girls here to get after it today.”
The event included many drills and games, starting with agility exercises like defensive back backpedaling and the agility ladder, then continued with position-specific drills, with quarterback and running back among the options.
Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith showed his support for Franklin by posing for photos and signing numerous shirts and jerseys.
