Bradley Cooper’s Most Cringeworthy Audition Cost Him Role – But It May Have Saved His Career

Jenkintown native Bradley Cooper recalled his most embarrassing audition, but in hindsight, not landing the role may have saved his career.

Jenkintown native Bradley Cooper recalled his most embarrassing audition, but in hindsight, not landing the role may have saved his career, writes Jacob Simmons for Far Out Magazine.

Cooper, who has been nominated for 12 Oscars, including for Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, is a very successful actor and director.

But things did not always go smoothly for the New Hope resident. At the start of his career, he faced plenty of rejection, including one from Michael Mann’s Public Enemies, prompting him to reevaluate his path as an actor.

However, the most embarrassing audition he recalls was for the 2011 film Green Lantern.

“I did, but I didn’t get it,” he said. “Ryan Reynolds did. And I would have chosen him had it been up to me, too. I think the trouble was that when I auditioned, it being a superhero movie, I couldn’t help but do my Christian Bale ‘Batman’ voice. I don’t know why. Needless to say, I didn’t get the job.”

Losing that job, however, maybe was a blessing in disguise, as the movie is considered one of the worst superhero films ever and nearly derailed Reynolds’ career.
