St. Joe’s men’s lacrosse team is on a mission to achieve back-to-back A-10 tournament titles, writes Mia Messina for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Coach Taylor Wray does not rely on a secret formula to win conference tournament games. Instead, he is emphasizing the approach that got the Hawks into the tournament in the first place. He has been instilling in his players the idea that the bigger the game, the smaller they have to think. So in preparation for this week’s games, his focus has remained on fundamentals.
“The worst thing that you can do is beat yourself by making mistakes,” said Wray. “You think about picking up tough ground balls and being sure of your stick work and communicating at a higher level and positioning and taking good, high quality shots, not just the first shot that presents itself.”
The team already won back-to-back A-10 regular-season titles, before going 2-3 in conference play this season, with a 9-5 overall. This marked the first time the team did not take the regular-season champion title since the conference was established in 2023.
