Laura Ziegler continues to dominate for St. Joe’s with an impressive defensive performance in the Hawks over St. Bonaventure last Wednesday, writes Mia Messina for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Ziegler leads the nation in defensive rebounds (190) and ranks fourth overall with 11.8 rebounds per game. On Wednesday, she contributed 17 points, marking her 14th double-double this season.
“I’ve always had the mentality that you need to control what you can control, and going after rebounds is something you can control. So a stop ends with a rebound,” Ziegler said.
The Hawks jumped to a 22-2 first-quarter lead against the Bonnies, showcasing their defensive prowess.
Even when the Hawks lose, Ziegler puts up numbers. She had double digits in rebound, scoring or both in the team’s four losses so far.
Ziegler credits her defense-focused mindset for her impact, saying that the team takes pride in their skills on that side of the ball.
The Hawks played against La Salle University and won 76-52.
