Bryn Athyn College students are heartbroken after the school decided to eliminate all eleven of its NCAA sports teams at the end of the academic year to cut costs, reports Madeline Wright for CBS Philadelphia.

“I’m very much hurt,” said sophomore Chris Bergentino.

Bergantino has been playing soccer since he was three and dreamed of joining the MLS. But the school’s decision is a major setback to his plans.

“I feel terrible,” he said. “I feel terrible about myself, and I feel terrible for our whole student body, all of the athletes at Bryn Athyn, because it all came to us as a shock.”

The school held several campus forums to address the issue with students. While students had many questions for college president Sean Connelly, some were not satisfied with the answers provided.

“He just kept pushing every, like, question we had aside,” said freshman Andrew Libig. “And it was just, like, really heartbreaking here. Like you didn’t want to answer the questions that we had.”

Students attended the forums hoping to save their athletic programs, but their efforts were in vain.

According to the school officials, 29 people will lose their jobs as part of the cuts.
