Solebury Township Approve Purchase of Former New Hope Crushed Stone and Lime Quarry

Solebury Township approves the $2.4 million purchase of the 166-acre former New Hope Crushed Stone and Lime Quarry on Phillips Mill Road.

Solebury Township will be the new owner of the former New Hope Crushed Stone and Lime Quarry on Phillips Mill Road, writes Tom Sofield for the New Hope Free Press.

The Solebury Township Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve the $2.4 million purchase of the 166-acre property, including a 75-acre lake. The costs will be offset by using outside funding.

“The board has diligently pursued potential sources of funds that could significantly defray the final cost to the township,” said Board Chair Mark Baum Baicker. “We feel confident that, in the end, the net outlay to Solebury Township will be significantly lower than this purchase price.”

The purchase will give the township control over the site’s future, enabling it to preserve the ecology of the lake and the surrounding lands, as well as supporting the restored Primrose Creek environment.

A structure that is part of the property could be utilized by the Solebury Township Public Works Department as a storage facility, saving the township around $350,000, said officials.

The sale will be finalized following environmental testing and the completion of a 45-day review period.
