A Future Forged In France: Sasha Burton Represents Ardmore in International Ironman Championship

Sasha Burton accepts an invitation to compete in the Ironman Championship in France.

Ardmore’s Sasha Burton will represent Montgomery County at the International Ironman Championship, reports Ben Silver for Main Line Today.

Burton finished fourth at the Florida Ironman competition in November 2023 and immediately had to decide whether or not she would accept the invitation to the World Championship held in Nice, France.

The event is on Sept. 22, and Burton accepted.

Burton’s affinity for the ultra marathons started when she was young and she witnessed her mother train for a race.

“She had started training for one when I was younger, but then life happened, so she didn’t get the chance to actually participate,” Burton said of her mother.

An Ironman consists of a full marathon, a 112-mile bike ride and a 2.4-mile swim. Burton competed in her first marathon in Atlantic City in September 2023. To prepare, she hired an online training team. The hardest part was the cycling.

“That was super intimidating for me. I fell probably like a billion times in the worst places too,” she recalled.

However, the training paid off. Just a few months later, she competed in the race that sent her to France.
