As New Hope Evolves, John & Peter’s Stands Steady as Heart of Community

John & Peter's bar, longtime heart of the community, keeps going strong as New Hope evolves into a budding rival to the Hamptons.

As New Hope evolves into a budding rival to the Hamptons, John & Peter’s bar – a longtime heart of the community – keeps beating strong, writes Courtney Iseman for the Punch.

Painted royal blue with red and yellow trim, the establishment offers one of the best burgers in the area and plenty of craft beer options, all enjoyed alongside an eclectic lineup of live music. During warm weather, the spacious patio is always full.

John Larsen founded the business in 1972 as a coffee shop with live music. Two years later, Peter Price joined him, and they secured a liquor license. Their genuine passion for nurturing true talent turning it into a destination for musicians. Over the years, the low stage hosted many famous names, including George Thorogood, Ween, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Norah Jones, and Arlo Guthrie.

The walls of the bar have framed photographs of musicians, staff, and past and present regulars.

“The space has this raw, unfiltered energy,” said David Fehnel, co-owner of Thirteen Vintage in New Hope. “Whether you’re there for a show, a drink, or just to catch up with locals, it feels like home.”
