Governor Josh Shapiro Calls in to WIP as ‘Josh from Abington’ to Revel in Eagles Victory

The day after the Super Bowl, Governor Josh Shapiro calls into the WIP midday show as 'Josh from Abington' to celebrate his favorite team.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro may hold one of the highest offices in the state, but when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles, he’s just another die-hard fan. The governor called into SportsRadio 94WIP’s midday show under the name “Josh from Abington” following the Eagles’ dominant Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, bringing the same energy as any other pumped-up Birds fan.

“What a day! Unbelievable. Incredible win,” Shapiro said, still riding high from the Eagles’ championship performance. While former Eagle Hugh Douglas jokingly hoped the governor hadn’t been out climbing poles, Shapiro reassured everyone that the celebrations remained safe—but no less electric.

Throughout the call, Shapiro broke down the game like a seasoned analyst, praising Jalen Hurts as the clear MVP while emphasizing the trenches’ role in the victory. “Howie has always understood you win championships on those two lines,” he said. “Hell, there were guys coming in making tackles—half the time I didn’t even know who they were.”

His excitement was unmistakable. For all his political responsibilities, this moment was about one thing: being a Philly fan. “Everybody just enjoy this week,” he told listeners before signing off. “Go Birds!”

It’s clear—no matter his title, Josh Shapiro will always bleed green.
