Abington School District inches closer toward a brand new middle school, reports Ryan Genova for Glenside Local.
During a meeting on Tuesday, Superintendent Doctor Jeffrey Fecher announced that the Board of School Directors would pursue plans for a new building on the current campus. The board discussed renovating the current building, building two new schools for grades 6 through 8, and creating separate buildings for grades 5 through 6 and 7 through 8 before deciding on one new middle school.
The district will prepare a resolution to fund the project through a referendum for residents of Abington Township and the Borough of Rockledge. On January 28, the board will vote on the resolution.
The decision followed insights from three recent surveys: an online ThoughtExchange survey in November, a telephone survey, and another online survey conducted in December. The results of the surveys are available online.
“The valuable feedback we received on the proposed options for Abington Middle School helped guide decision-making on the best plan to meet the needs of our students and staff, reflect our community’s priorities, and provide long-term value,” said Fecher.
Abington residents are still welcome to provide input through a ConnectForm.
