Upper Merion Area School District Superintendent Dr. Tamara Smith has challenged a Kansas City counterpart to a friendly Super Bowl wager—backed by enthusiastic students, writes The Reporter.
A Philadelphia native and lifelong Eagles fan, Dr. Smith wanted to channel the district’s excitement into a fun competition. After researching Kansas City school districts, she reached out to Dr. Mike Kimbrel of Park Hill School District, known for its own team spirit.
With students, cheerleaders, and band members in tow, Upper Merion’s Dr. Smith filmed a video challenge to Park Hill. The bet? If the Eagles win, Dr. Kimbrel must wear an Eagles shirt while eating a Philly cheesesteak, sharing proof on social media. If the Chiefs win, Upper Merion will receive a Chiefs shirt and Kansas City barbecue, with Dr. Smith doing the same.
“I sincerely hope I do not have to eat my words,” said Dr. Smith. “But no matter what, we are so proud of our hometown team and love coming together as a school district to cheer them on.”
The video has been sent to Kansas City, adding a spirited twist to the Super Bowl showdown. Now, it’s up to the Eagles to bring home the win—and keep Dr. Smith in green.
