Montgomery County has great towns for the social imbibers, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.
In particular, Ardmore and Jenkintown offer some of the most unique and inviting bar experiences.
Ardmore
Ardmore is home to a diverse collection of bars. Char & Stave Coffee Roasters combines house-roasted coffee with whiskey distilled in Phoenixville. Jack McShea’s and Local Wine & Kitchen offer excellent drink selections. Beer lovers can visit Tired Hands Brewing Company, which operates both the BrewCafé and the Fermenteria & General Store. Those who enjoy live music with their drinks should check out Ardmore Music Hall, a premier venue for over 40 years.
Jenkintown
Downtown Jenkintown’s Old York Road is lined with great bars worth lingering in. Human Robot Brewing’s The Haus features a strong craft beer lineup and weekly events. Across the street, Newbolds Food & Libations serves up inventive cocktails in a steampunk-inspired setting, while The Drake Tavern boasts an expansive drink menu. For something unique, The Keep Easy offers rare finds like mead and honey wine. If a classic dive bar is more your style, Buckets delivers a no-frills experience.
Both Ardmore and Jenkintown provide an excellent mix of craft beer, cocktails, and community vibes, making them ideal destinations for bar enthusiasts.
