Upper Moreland junior Mikel Lancit is teaming up with her dad, Rashim, for one final season of AAU ahead of her senior year of high school, writes Owen McCue for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The two started working out together when Mikel was in third grade after her dad began holding local workouts for his daughter and other girls in the Upper Moreland and Cheltenham school districts.

“Even when I’m in the winters when I’m playing high school, he’s still always there for me,” said Mikel. “In the summers, it’s just even more. It’s really cool because he can kind of tell what I’m thinking.”

Lancit, who is currently the head girls’ basketball coach at Academy of the New Church, has 23 years of coaching experience. Meanwhile, his daughter is a point guard and three-year varsity player at Upper Moreland who plans to continue playing college hoops.

But before that happens, there is still a whole high school season left as well as one more AAU season playing for her dad.

“It’s been really fun,” said Mikel. “The last season hasn’t really hit me.”
