Before the start of the baseball season, Victus Sports in King of Prussia was busy crafting bats for some of Major League Baseball’s top players, writes Christie Ileto for 6abc.
Founded in 2012 out of a friend’s garage, the company has become a global brand used by many, including several Philadelphia Phillies players.
“About 25 to 30 percent of the big leagues on any given night are swinging our bat,” said Jared Smith, founder and CEO of Victus Sports. “So every lineup, you can expect two to four people – typically some teams more than others.”
Bryce Harper is among those players. He famously used a Victus bat to hit the home run that secured the Phillies’ spot in the 2022 World Series.
The bat-making process at Victus is meticulous, with dozens of Pennsylvanians participating in each step, including shaping, sanding, finishing, and engraving.
Players also often come to the facility and use its on-site batting cage to test their bats.
“It’s absolutely surreal,” said Smith. “There are certain days where you pinch yourself – with the playoffs coming up for the Phillies, that’s something we’re really excited about.”
