Grace Clift’s gold medal was the first won by a female on the Abington Senior High School wrestling team in the school’s history.

Sixteen-year-old Grace Clift made wrestling history earlier this month when she won a gold medal for Abington Senior High School, writes Kim Hudson for CBS Philadelphia.

The victory was a first for the school and the league. Clift’s gold medal was the first won by a female on the Abington Senior High School wrestling team in the school’s history.

This was also the first season the Suburban One League had girls’ wrestling, making it the first in league history as well.

Clift said she takes an aggressive approach to practice, but she is careful to make time for studying as well.

“I also wrestle a lot of my male teammates. So, it made it easier to face girls,” she said.

Abington Athletic Director Charles Grasty said that Clift is a good role model for younger athletes, both female and male.

Clift said she hopes to inspire other young athletes to persist even in the face of challenges.
