Weavers Way Co-op, a member-owned cooperative grocery with an Ambler location, recently celebrated both its 50th anniversary and the fourth anniversary of its Vendor Diversity Program, writes Bridget Goldschmidt for the Progressive Grocer.

The successful program highlights makers and artisans of color from the greater Philadelphia area. It offers selected vendors with assistance and support to introduce their products to the market.

In addition to shelf space, it also helps entrepreneurs with packaging, logistics, production scaling, and operations optimization.

Over the last four years, the program has welcomed many talented local entrepreneurs to its ranks, like Adelie Coffee, Amira’s Vegan Muffins, Luminous Intentions, Sequoya and Jaylin’s Gourmet Foods, and many more.

“It is amazing to see how much this initiative has grown in the last four years,” said Weavers Way Finance Administrator Candy Hasan, who originally led the program.

“This initiative reinforces the co-op’s longstanding mission of supporting and celebrating diversity. Helping local business owners achieve their goals is something we take immense pride in.”

The program’s new Vendor Diversity Program coordinator Danielle Sellers Mitchell is planning on expanding the program to a new location in Germantown that is expected to open this year.
