Started in 1991 at The Mercury in Pottstown, Operation Holiday continues to serve thousands of families throughout Berks, Chester, and Montgomery counties, writes MediaNews Group.

Every dollar in donations helps local families with food and gifts for children during the holiday season. The goal is to make sure that families have food on the table and gifts under the tree on Christmas.

Last year over $91,000 in donations provided food and gifts for 451 children and 199 families, and cash donations were given to local food pantries.

The families are given gift cards to area groceries, so they purchase what they need for their holiday dinner. Gift cards purchased through Boscov’s are also given to buy gifts for children 16 years of age or younger.

For this holiday season, Operation Holiday is partnering with 19 agencies in the tri-county area that have referred 165 families with 419 children.

You can help by making an online donation here.
