Conshohocken Free Library recently enriched its already diverse range of offerings with the introduction of spices and herbs as part of its Cooking with Conshy program, writes M. English for The Times Herald.

Once a month, the staff at CFL distribute small bags containing spices or herbs with printed descriptions and recipes for using them.

“People basically check out a packet the same as they would a book,” said CFL Manager Holly Holst.

The idea came from Assistant Katie Weitzman “based on information Katie ‘borrowed’” from other area libraries, added Holst.

The library is encouraging people to use the spices or herbs to cook something and then send the library a picture or post it on social media and talk about their experience using it.

The spicy addition has been well received and CFL’s Friends group has already agreed to provide funding for the program through 2024.

“It would be great if people take this as motivation to improve or expand their cooking skills,” said Holst.

The spice and herb giveaways are on a first-come, first-served basis. The next batch will be distributed on December 11.
