New York's Studio 54 in its heyday.

A Conshohocken restaurant-bar is recreating the glitz, glam, and disco beat of one of the most iconic 1970s hot spots on the East Coast: Manhattan’s Studio 54. M. English covered the announcement of the Feb. 25 event in The Times Herald.

The Studio 54 Adult Prom will take place at the Great American Pub in Conshohocken. The $100 tickets support the good work done by three local nonprofits:

  • Colonial Neighborhood Council
  • Conshohocken Free Library
  • Colonial School District

The idea for a fundraising dance for grownups arose in 2020, just before widespread shutdowns by the pandemic.

Its success led organizers to try again in 2022 with an 1980s prom theme. But health concerns muted its turnout.

The decision to go disco for 2023 was explained by event spokesman Brian Coll, who said it sounded like “… a lot of fun.”

Attendees can dress in either the legitimate style of the era (John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever) or in parody form (Disco Stu from The Simpsons).

From 1977–1980, Studio 54 was a wildly popular destination, where high-profile New Yorkers, such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Andy Warhol, Woody Allen, were regulars.

Tickets to the Conshohocken Studio 54 Adult Prom are on sale at Eventbrite.

The dance’s full story is at The Times Herald.
