Bryanna Pardoe, executive director of CODE PA, speaks with the press at the unveiling of CODE PA in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on April 25, 2023.

Bryanna Pardoe, former director of web and digital experience at Main Line Health, discusses leading Pennsylvania’s new Commonwealth Office of Digital Experience, writes Keely Quinlan for StateScoop.

As executive director of CODE PA, Pardoe has spent her first six months in the new leadership role building her team which will work across state agencies to create digital programs, streamline online services, and write code for digital products.

Pardoe said that she wasn’t sure what to expect in her new role but said “It’s been a wild ride.”

“When I was working in health care, I sort of understood the rules of the road and the scope and what we were talking about,” she said.

“Government is just so big, and the scope of this role is so big. So I think the first six months have really just been trying to absorb not only where CODE PA could be beneficial, but also everything that will go into that.”

CODE PA’s first official product is the PAyback system launched just this month. It allows residents, businesses, schools, and nonprofits to check eligibility for refunds on permits, licenses, and other application fees.

The office is also developing an app for postpartum mothers through a partnership with the University of Pittsburgh.
