Anna Stein, a senior at Perkiomen Valley High School, almost didn’t realize her dream of playing collegiate basketball because of a major knee injury, writes Josh Verlin for City of Basketball Love.

The injury occurred in her sophomore year and cost her an entire season and two summers of basketball. She needed two surgeries before she was pain-free enough to get back on the court.

Despite all the challenges, she was offered a scholarship from Kutztown’s Janey Malouf and will be joining the Golden Bears’ class of 2024.

“It literally just felt like a miracle, almost,” she said. “I didn’t think that it was possible.”

Stein had a great season her freshman year with the Vikings ended it 8-6. Before the tryouts for sophomore year however she was injured playing lacrosse.

She was back on the court her junior with her two sisters, but persisting pain limited her.

Turned out she had retorn her meniscus and needed more surgery. She couldn’t get the surgery until June though and became worried about being able to show college coaches her true potential

Finally cleared to play in August, Stein attended a prospects camp at Kutztown in early September. She felt an instant connection to the school.
