Omar Cruickshank has been leading a series of self-defense classes for teen girls 12 to 19-years where he teaches them how to defend and protect themselves from abduction.

In the wake of the attempted abduction of a 14-year-old girl at the Willow Grove Park Mall two months ago, a Flourtown Brazilian Jiu-jitsu instructor is offering free self-defense classes to young girls.

Omar Cruickshank has been leading a series of self-defense classes for teen girls 12 to 19-years where he teaches them how to defend and protect themselves from abduction.

“We’re teaching girls how to get away safely. We are not going to teach them how to knuckle up with a grown man or anything but to get away,” he explained.

Cruickshank regularly holds classes at his studio, Crush Crew, in Flourtown, but this is a special series he is offering in different areas of Philadelphia and Montgomery County.

This particular class was held at the Legacy Center in Abington.

Keesha Jefferson’s 12-year-old stepdaughter and 15-year-old niece are taking the classes.

“I worry about it all the time, but I think stuff like this will definitely help them walking around the streets,” Jefferson said.
