While her journey to playing college basketball had a lot of bumps and turns along the way, Germantown Academy’s Jess Aponik never gave up, writes Andrew Robinson for City of Basketball Love.
During her high school basketball career Aponik faced many challenges. Her freshman year, COVID-19 cut time on the court, and then she lost playing time in her sophomore and senior year because of injuries.
She always kept her end goal in sight though, and now she will be playing basketball for Kutztown University.
“There’s going to be times where you feel like you failed, times where you feel like you’re on the top, and a lot of bumps in the road,” Aponik said.
“The important thing is to never give up and know there’s a plan for you, that’s how I kept my mind set on it throughout.”
The Kutztown Golden Bears were the first to extend an offer to her in June of 2022, and she never forgot that. But it was her visit to campus that really sold her on the school.
“I stayed a night with the team, went to a practice, went to a football game and just immediately, it felt like home,” Aponik said.
