In 2021, Patrick Brett, a Blue Bell resident, received a heart and liver transplant after his condition worsened due to complications with his medication.

Patrick Brett, a guidance counselor at North Penn High School in Lansdale, has always loved the game of baseball, but a heart condition sidelined him from going after his dream of being a professional baseball player.

He and his family discovered his condition after he passed out on a basketball court at the age of 14 years old because of a weak heart. His doctor told him he could never play sports again.

Brett was devastated, but his baseball coach came to the hospital and reassured him that he would be coaching the team with him.

Not wanting to leave his favorite game behind, he became the team manager and years later an assistant coach at North Penn.

In 2021, Brett received a heart and liver transplant after his condition worsened due to complications with his medication. The lifesaving gift of organ donation has given him a chance to get back to what he loves.

Now he coaches his 4-year-old son and his wife, Lauren, coaches their daughter’s softball team.

A lifelong Phillies fan, Brett and his family will join the Gift of Life Donor Program for Organ Donor Awareness Night at the Phillies game on Saturday, August 26. He will be supporting a young transplant recipient who will throw the first pitch at the games.
