CVS Health will be making significant changes at its Aetna office in Blue Bell this fall, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The layoff of 157 workers is a part of a corporate-wide restructuring plan. The restructuring will begin October 21 and run through December 30, according to paperwork CVS filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor.

Most of the jobs that will be eliminated are health insurance-related positions. All the employees who lose their jobs will receive severance pay and benefits.

“Our industry is evolving to adapt to new consumer health needs and expectations,” CVS said in a statement.

“As part of an enterprise initiative to reprioritize our investments around care delivery and technology, we must take difficult steps to reduce expenses. This unfortunately includes the need to eliminate approximately 5,000 non-customer-facing positions across CVS Health…Throughout our company’s history, we’ve continuously adapted to market dynamics to lead the industry. The difficult decision we are making will set the company up for long-term success.”
