The teacher received a large check for her school district from a famous mascot.

A Bucks County teacher was lauded for her outstanding skills in the classroom, and a popular mascot presented her with the prize for the distinction of being the Most Valuable Teacher. The Pennsbury Education Association carried the story.

Sandy Metzger, a science instructor at Charles Boehm Middle School in Yardley, was recently lauded for her work by the National Hockey League. The sports organization hosts the award every year in order to help local schools.

Metzger was nominated back in January. An educator in the Pennsbury School District, she was presented a check for $10,000 by Gritty, the mascot of the Philadelphia Flyers, which will be used for her school district.

“Congrats to PEA Member and Charles Boehm Middle School science teacher Sandy Metzger for winning the Most Valuable Teacher through the NHL program,” the Pennsbury Education Association posted online.

The district is regarded as one of the best in the area, with many students, staff, and parents receiving accolades for their commitment to better education.

Metzger’s winning of the title is one of many examples of how Pennsbury stands out in local education.
