When the topic of being safe at a baseball game usually involves what’s going on at the bases or home plate. But thanks to Safety Padding Ink, a Hatfield company, players well being is ensured even in the outfields. Matt Petrillo swung for the fences in bringing the story to CBS3 Philadelphia.

Safety Padding Ink provides the foam padding that softens the walls at Citizen Bank Park, lessening the impact on players who may dive for a ball and slam into a border or rail.

Bobby Mancino, co-owner, is so focused on the performance of his product, his attention rests fully there during games, not with how the players are doing. “We watch for padding,” he admitted.

His work at the South Phila. ballpark has been all-inclusive.

“We do the outfield; we do the dugouts,” said Anthony Mancino, Bobby’s partner-brother. “Behind home plate. Any padding they need in a spot that’s dangerous.”

In the days before tonight’s home game, employees have been installing new padding (with post-season branding) throughout the field.

“We have our operators working overtime,” Anthony said. “Our guys in the shop working overtime just to make sure everything is ready to go… .”

If the impact of this abbreviated story creates the desire for more, the full coverage is at CBS3 Philadelphia.
