Couch to 5K? Hold My Beer; Rofo Fire Dept. Throws Down Couch-to-Burning-Building Challenge
The Royersford Fire Department is inviting everyday residents to experience for themselves the life of a suburban firefighter. Joe Zlomek suited up to bring the story to The Sanatoga Post.
The department will train volunteers in a three-day regimen of mock exercises designed to give them the unique experience of safely dousing flames.
Only 10 spots, however, are open, and the station has been promoting the opportunity heavily on its Facebook page.
If interest remains strong, according to department firefighter and community relations representative Adam Alberico, other sessions may be added.
Those eager to brave the challenge can expect:
- An introductory session to meet fellow firefighters and get sized for gear
- Core instruction on:
- Search-and-rescue techniques
- Methods of attacking a fire
- Use of self-contained breathing apparatus
- Onsite training in Skippack at a “burn building,” a firefighting training structure designed to be safely lit aflame for educational purposes
Additional details on this unique opportunity with the Royersford Fire Department — including contact information for Alberico — is at The Sanatoga Post.
