Royersford's first firehouse turns into Lost Planet Brewery.

A 10-barrel brewery occupying Royersford’s first firehouse is having a quiet opening according to BreweriesinPA.com.

Lost Planet Brewery was keeping eager residents updated throughout the year on the process, but by late July … radio silence. This. of course. perplexed thirsty beer aficionados and the Royersford community who were wondering what happened at 301 Walnut Street.

And after months of waiting, the community finally got its answer. The brewery posted an update in mid-September on Facebook announcing that the closure was just for one day. And that the business has been open for quite some time.

The quiet opening was not intended to stir confusion, but instead make their staff feel more comfortable. In a reply to a comment on its Facebook page Lost Planet said:

“We kept it low key as we know the love from Royersford would have been overwhelming (and we thank you) Our staff is our family, and we care about them. We kept it low key for our staff to feel comfortable and get used to the new environment. Thanks for everyone’s good wishes! See you Sunday!”

According to an interview with BreweriesinPA.com, the owners plan to have 12 beers on tap. They also said that they want to turn the firehouse it occupies into a historical landmark.

Royersford’s first firehouse opened its doors in 1894 and last operated as a fire-rescue site in 2016. The owners originally said they want to honor the historical significance of the place with memorabilia, an antique game, and by preserving the area’s last working diaphones (a low-pitched fog signal) in the tower.
