Malcolm Nance, a Wynnefield native and counterterrorism expert, left his job as an analyst on MSNBC and announced on Twitter that he had joined the fight in Ukraine, writes Ximena Conde for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“I’m DONE talking,” wrote Nance in a post that also featured his photograph in army fatigues with a rifle.

In his appearance on MSNBC on Monday from Lviv, he said he joined the International Legion for the Territorial Defense of Ukraine in March.

The legion was created by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to allow volunteers from other countries to join the fight against the Russian invasion. So far, more than 20,000 people from over 50 countries had volunteered, with 3,000 Americans among them.

“We are here for one purpose and one purpose only and that is to protect the innocent people of Ukraine from this Russian aggression,” said Nance.

Nance, who is a former Naval intelligence officer and executive director of the Terror Asymmetrics Project, first visited Ukraine before the war. He was motivated to join the fight after his friends in the Ukrainian Army described a difficult situation where they were being “hit 500 times.”
