Montgomery County’s Rebecca Kutler Leads Major MSNBC Shake-Up

Montgomery County’s Rebecca Kutler leads MSNBC’s transformation, reshaping its lineup with bold programming and strategic changes.

Montgomery County native Rebecca Kutler is making bold moves as the new president of MSNBC, leading a major programming shake-up, writes Rob Tornoe for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kutler’s vision for the network includes canceling The ReidOut, Joy Reid’s 7 p.m. show, which has been a staple since 2020. Reid, caught off guard, expressed gratitude despite the abrupt decision.

Under Kutler’s leadership, MSNBC is introducing a new 7 p.m. hosting trio: Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez. She has also tapped former White House press secretary Jen Psaki to take over the 9 p.m. slot Tuesday through Friday, while Alex Wagner moves into a senior political analyst role.

Rachel Maddow’s presence will expand through President Donald Trump’s first 100 days before returning to her usual schedule in late April. Kutler is also streamlining MSNBC’s operations by closing its Miami bureau and cutting shows hosted by Katie Phang and José Díaz-Balart. Meanwhile, Ana Cabrera, Katy Tur, Chris Jansing, and Ali Velshi will take on expanded roles.

These sweeping changes coincide with MSNBC’s corporate transition as it separates from NBC and Comcast to become part of SpinCo, a new entity housing CNBC and USA Network. As MSNBC moves into this new era, Kutler’s strategic direction is reshaping the network’s future.
