La Salle University Alum Takes Over as New Head Coach of U.S. Women’s National Basketball Team

Cheryl Reeve, La Salle University alum, is the new head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Basketball Team, reports Lucy Bustamante for NBC10 Philadelphia.

“I’m super excited, of course,” said Reeve. “Honored. I feel a great responsibility, obviously, to continue moving USA basketball in the direction that it’s been for a long time.”

A South Jersey native, Cheryl Reeve credits her Philadelphia area roots for shaping who she is on and off the court.

“I think that’s what we’re known for,” she said.” Every once in a while, when that perceived toughness, when people hear it kind of come through, they go “ah, you’re so Philly!”

Her response?

“You’re damn right we are!”

Reeve’s Philadelphia ties run deepest at her former university, where she is in the Hall of Fame. For students there, she is truly an inspiration.

“I’m experiencing and I’m living a life that she lived,” said Molly Mosciantonio, La Salle senior guard. “And to feel like you can do anything you want, and it’s a huge role model to younger kids as well.”

Being that inspiration is what drives Cheryl Reeve. “It’s an incredible honor,” she said.
