The Harcum College men’s basketball team used a late run to overcome a second-half deficit to capture the 2022 National Junior College Athletic Association Region 15/19 Championship with an 87-74 victory over Monroe College (N.Y.).

The two teams are longtime NJCAA rivals, and after they split their regular-season series, their matchup at West Chester University’s Hollinger Field House put a finer point on who was the better team this season.

Mali native Mohamed Wague led the Bears with 26 points and 17 rebounds, while Australia native Louis Bleechmore contributed 17 points and five assists.

Yazid Powell, a Philadelphian, added 21 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four steals for Harcum.

The Bears now travel to Cumberland, Md., on Saturday, March 5 to take on Hagerstown Community College in the East District Championship. The winner advances to the 24-team national championships in Hutchinson, Kan.
