Colmar-based Select Properties is moving ahead with its planned mixed-use project that will be constructed on the site of the former Souderton Area High School, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The $40 million development, called Towne Gate Commons, is the second phase of a larger development in Souderton. The developer completed the first phase of Towne Gate two years ago when it built 74 townhouses.

The second base will consist of 66 townhouses that will be constructed by Ryan Homes, which also built the houses for the first phase, and 65,000 square feet of retail. Dollar General has already signed on as a tenant.

Additionally, the plans in Souderton include a public park with an amphitheater and a plaza area featuring a water feature, fireplace, and gazebo.

“We’re trying to build a more self-sustained neighborhood,” said Brian Grant, vice president at Select Properties. “It’s not every day you’re going to be involved in a city block with generations that have local ties to it.”

The construction is expected to start by the end of the year with the infrastructure expected to be in place by spring next year.
