Conshohocken-based AmerisourceBergen will continue to navigate opioid lawsuits with a new chief legal officer, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Elizabeth Campbell will succeed John Chou as executive vice president and chief legal officer at Philadelphia area’s largest public company. She will report directly to CEO Steven H. Collis.

Chou, who has held the chief legal officer position for 14 years, will become a special advisor to Collis through early 2022 as part of the transition.

He will oversee the finalization of post-closing negotiations and integration of the company’s planned acquisition of Walgreens Boots Alliance’s pharmaceutical distribution business.

Campbell, who is a University of Pittsburgh Law School graduate, has been with AmerisourceBergen for 11 years, most recently serving as deputy general counsel under Chou.

Prior to that, she spent ten years at Pepper Hamilton.

Campbell is “a proven advisor with exceptional legal leadership and expertise and an in-depth knowledge of our business and industry,” said Collis.

Campbell is deeply familiar with the issues AmerisourceBergen has been facing recently.

This includes a significant number of lawsuits connected to opioid-related claims the wholesale pharmaceutical distributor has been fighting.
