Viva Video! in Ardmore is one of the few video stores in the state that are still standing, according to 94.5 PST.

The store was opened in 2012 by Miguel Gomez, the longtime manager of TLA Video in Bryn Mawr that closed just a few days prior.

It boasts a sizable library of over 17,000 titles on DVD, Blu-Ray, and VHS, including some hard-to-find titles not available via streaming.

“I myself don’t make any money from the shop,” said Gomez. “It’s 100% a passion project.”

In addition to renting videos, the store also hosts screenings along with other events – such as viewing parties for the Oscars – throughout the year. Due to the pandemic, most of the events in the last 12 months were held online.

Rentals are very affordable, $5 for three nights and $2 added for each extra day. Discounts are available for multiple titles.

As a bonus, the décor is certain to offer a dose of nostalgia for those who grew up browsing the shelves at their local video store.
