Conshohocken Pet Valu store will close as the specialty retailer of pet food and supplies winds down its operations in the United States due to the impact from COVID-19, according to a staff report from More Than The Curve.

The closure of the store at Whitemarsh Shopping Center will create a sizable swath of unoccupied space. The complex recently lost another tenant, Metroplex, which has vacated 10,200 square feet of space. The adjacent Pet Valu will add another 3,400 square feet to this.

Overall, the company has 358 stores and warehouses across the country. However, Pet Valu in Canada will not be affected by the closures as the United States operation uses a licensing agreement for its name and some services.

“The Company’s stores have been significantly impacted by the protracted COVID-19-related restrictions,” said Jamie Gould, Pet Valu Chief Restructuring Officer. “After a thorough review of all available alternatives, we made the difficult but necessary decision to commence this orderly wind down.”

During the closing process, “we will continue to provide our customers with the same great in-store experience, offering them even better deals and value,” he added.
