Karen Crane, President and CEO of Bala Cynwyd-based Crane Communications, is one of Main Line’s Power Women 2020, writes Lisa Dukart for the Main Line Today.

Crane spent years in the advertising business before she opened her own full-service agency made up of women who represent various local and national organizations. For more than 25 years, she has worked hard to create a culture of collaboration.

“I really think that relationship comes from truly partnering,” she said.

To be able to foster such relationships, Crane intentionally kept her firm small.

“My dream was never to have a huge hundred-person agency,” she said. “I like the culture we created, and I think that when you get too big, it’s hard to maintain that. I like the intimacy and the personal touch.”

Crane is also board chair of Mother of Mercy House in the struggling Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia. The goal of the “storefront church” is to meet the community needs without the usual trappings.

“It’s such a no-judgment zone,” she said.

Mother of Mercy offers several much-needed programs, including a food pantry.
