Montgomery County May 22nd COVID-19 Update

Based on the information found on state and county’s COVID-19 website and the commissioner’s Thurday press briefing, here is a snapshot of the spread of coronavirus across Montgomery County, the Delaware Valley, and Pennsylvania.

Since the last update Wednesday afternoon, 94 new COVID-19 positive cases ranging in age from 3-years to 101-years-old were reported in Montgomery County Thursday afternoon.

The 94 new cases, 55 of which were females, came from 32 municipalities.

The new positive cases bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 6,213 countywide, 3,290 of which are females, 2,881 are males.

The average age of individuals with COVID-19 across the county is 55.7 years-old with the youngest patient being a 1-month-old baby and a 110-year-old Abington man, the oldest.

The County continues to monitor the 75 Department of Health certified long-term care centers and approximately 550 congregant care facilities across Montgomery County for instances of COVID-19.

Of the 94 new COVID-19 cases reported by the county Wednesday afternoon, 22 were residents or staff of one of the 94 long-term care facilities in the county self-reporting at least one COVID-19 case.

Over the last 24 hours, 10 new coronavirus related death of individuals ranging in age from 50- to 101-years-old were reported in Montgomery County.

The new deaths bring the total COVID-19 death toll countywide to 558 individuals.

The county’s COVID-19 death toll of 558 is 11.5% of the 4,869 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide.

The County’s 6,213 COVID-19 cases represent 9.5-percent of the 65,392 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Pennsylvania.

By comparison, as of noon Wednesday when the state updated their coronavirus case count, with the exception of Philadelphia County with 16,840 COVID-19 positive cases and 1,178 deaths, neighboring and surrounding counties all report fewer positive coronavirus cases and deaths than Montgomery County’s tally:
