Montgomery County COVID-19 Friday Morning Update – April 17th

Based on the information found on state and county’s COVID-19 website and the Commissioner’s Thursday afternoon press conference, here is quick snapshot of the spread of coronavirus across Montgomery County, the Delaware Valley and Pennsylvania.

As of 10:00 AM Thursday morning, Montgomery County reported 114 new COVID-19, up 38 cases from the 76 new cases reported Wednesday. 

The 114 new cases, 63 of which were females, came from 31 municipalities and range in age from 24 to 96 years-old and fall in the following age brackets:

  • 0 to 9 – 0
  • 10 to 19 – 0
  • 20 to 29 – 2
  • 30 to 39 – 11
  • 40 to 49 – 10
  • 50 to 59 – 13
  • 60 to 69 – 22
  • 70 to 79 – 25
  • 80 to 89 – 20
  • 90 to 99 – 11
  • 100 to 109 – 0

The 114 new positive cases brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 2,318 countywide.

Of those 2,313 confirmed cases, 1073 are male, 1,209 are female.

The average age of individuals with COVID-19 across the county is 54 years-old with the youngest patient being a 1-month-old baby and a 110 year-old Abington man, the oldest.

Sixtyone of the county’s 62 municipalities are home to at least one individual with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.

Of those 61 municipalities, only one, Bryn Athyn Borough in the county’s southeast corner, reports zero cases of COVID-19.

The County continues to monitor the 75 Department of Health certified long-term care centers and approximately 550 congregant care facilities across Montgomery County for instances of COVID-19.

Of the 871 cases reported at these centers through Thursday morning, 556 were residents and the balance, 315 cases, were of staff members of the care facility.

As of WThursday, 79 of those facilities have the following number of residents or staff with COVID-19:

  • 43 facilities with 1 to 5 cases
  • 14 facilities with 6 to 10 cases
  • 4 facilities with 11 to 15 cases
  • 2 facilities with 16 to 20 cases
  • 0 facilities with 21 to 25 cases
  • 4 facilities with 26 to 30 cases
  • 5 facility with 31 to 35 cases
  • 2 facility with 36 to 40 cases
  • 3 facility with 41 to 45 cases
  • 1 facility with 51 to 55 cases
  • 1 facility with 61 to 65 cases

Eight new coronavirus related death of individuals ranging in age from 62 to 90 years-old were reported in Montgomery County on Thursday.

Thursday’s deaths move the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 128.

Eighty four (66%) of the 128 COVID-19 deaths were residents or staff of the 600-plus Montgomery County long-term care facilities.

Nearly 40% of Montgomery County’s 128 COVID-19 deaths are in two municipalities; Springfield Township with 29 deaths and Upper Gwynedd Township with 19.

The county’s COVID-19 death toll of 128 is 18.1% of the 707 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide.

The County’s 2,198 COVID-19 cases represent 7.9-percent of the 27,735 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Pennsylvania.

By comparison, as of noon Thursday when the state updated their coronavirus count, with the exception of Philadelphia County, with 7,684 COVID-19 positive cases, neighboring and surrounding counties all have fewer positive coronavirus cases than does Montgomery County:
