Walkable suburbs and neighborhoods are currently all the rage in the real estate world as developers rush to add foot-friendly amenities to car-centric places. Meanwhile, Montgomery County towns were built for strolling in the first place, according to Philadelphia Magazine.

According to Walk Score, a real estate industry standard that measures the walkability of places based on the distance to amenities such as grocery stores, schools, parks, restaurants, and shops, six out of the 14 most walkable Philadelphia suburbs are in Montgomery County.

Ardmore received a high Walk Score of 91 thanks to being home to the business downtown on the Main Line that is supplemented by nearby Suburban Square.

Narberth, with its feel of a small town from days gone by, received a Walk Score of 90.

Ambler, with 87 Walk Score, boasts a main street that has turned into the area’s hub of arts and culture, while Bryn Mawr, with a Walk Score of 86, shows off its scholarly side with a library at its main intersection.

Jenkintown, with a downtown boasting dozens of restaurants and shops, and Lansdale, with its many new restaurants and creative local shops, also made the list.
